1 hour program (up to 4 students)
Students read one book per week in accordance with their reading and grade level. Students are also given a worksheet containing questions based on the book, as well as a section to write down new vocabulary words they come across when reading. They have one week to finish reading the novel and complete the worksheet at home. The questions on the worksheet concern the novel’s setting, character analysis, and the students’ reaction to the novel as a whole. They are asked to discuss the conflict that takes place in the novel and its resolution. They are also asked to provide a summary of the novel’s plot.
In class, students first take a computer-based reading comprehension test, and then are given another worksheet containing open-ended interpretive questions, which encourages them to dig deeper into the text. They also write sentences for the vocabulary words they looked up, or they are quizzed on the definitions of the words.
