For grades 4 --- 2 hours per week

The foundation of this class is the novel. Students in fourth-grade will read chapter books suitable to their reading level. Reading is done at home but the text is discussed in class using our own specially-made workbook, which includes: critical thinking questions that will guide class discussion; analytical activities that will take students one step beyond the text; and vocabulary words students will be quizzed on. In class, students will answer these discussion questions, do the activities, and go over their vocabulary words. Students are asked to write book reports for each book covered in class. Further reading, another activity or two, and vocabulary will be assigned as homework, which is reviewed at the beginning of every class. Each novel will take five to six weeks to complete.
